Black and White

I like black and white. I used to use black and white film in my SLR camera back in the day. Can you still get black and white film developed? I love pen and ink drawings, old Alfred Hitchcock movies, the daily funnies: all things that are black and white. So why was it so hard to make a strictly black and white quilt when requested to do so? TheKid asked for one but something in me rebelled. Those are 2 incredibly bad photos of the quilt I made him. Can you see the colored additions of hot pink, lemon yellow, lime green? He said it was OK.

The next picture is the pieced flannel backing. I had all these leftover scraps of flannel (mainly plaids) from making boxer shorts for him and shirts for CarGuy. In fact, I used to make CarGuy's work shirts out of white flannel. For being an OK quilt, it was worn out -- loved to death.

Then, about 5 years ago I had this marathon crochet thing going on. I crocheted about 14 afghans that year and I had no trouble crocheting him this afghan. This, too, is worn out and no longer around.

It was time for another quilt. I had to make him a new one. It was a kit from Joann Fabrics. All I had to do was cut it out, sew it up, add batting and quilting. Connie, the long arm quilter who did the quilting, said it was the hardest thing to get lined up because of the movement in the fabric. I believe it. I had a hard time sewing the simple blocks together. This is quilted with musical staffs and notes. I hope he likes it. I've had to sit on my hands to not add any color. This is one of the quilts that I got done this past weekend.

"Hurry, Christmas, hurry fast."*
Otherwise, this might end up with some color!

  1. I've purchased black and white fabric, but haven't every used it for anything yet. I know I need to someday. I'm sure TheKid will love this one.
