A big time sink

or I got my invitation to join Ravelry. Do you know what Ravelry is?

"Ravelry is a place for knitters, crocheters, designers, spinners, and dyers to keep track of their yarn, tools and pattern information, and look to others for ideas and inspiration."

And since this is Wednesday I thought I'd talk about my current WIP (work in progress). I have been spending A LOT of time on Ravelry inputting my yarn and needles and hooks and crochet thread stash(es). A lot. I had to decide if I wanted to go back and do the completed projects too, but you know what? I don't have a lot of them (projects) hanging around because I keep giving them away. So I decided that I will start with this year -- 2008.

Which led me to thinking that how perfect a vehicle this is for keeping track of stash and projects. When you make a project, you can keep track of the WHOLE thing in Ravelry! The yarn, the size and type of needles, the gauge, the pattern and where (if) it is available for purchase or free, and pictures of the completed project.

Which made me think about Sweet P of Coffee Time Quilt Studio and her Stashbuster tracking spreadsheet. Wouldn't it be great if there was a whole web space devoted to tracking your quilting projects and stash? Not that I could develop it but one can dream, can't one?

So anyway, the second pic is a screen capture of the project page on the Wavy Gravy hat. As always, the photo is clickable for a larger version. Not that the page is really readable. If you want the pattern go here for it as it is available as a free pattern. And yes, I used Noro Kureyon yarn. Be forwarned, tho. Since you are only working with 50gr of yarn it makes a fairly small hat. If, like me, you have a giganormous head, gift it to someone else.

  1. Cool hat!

And, please please please someone more computer-savvy than I make that website! I'm about to have to build myself a database because I can't remember what I have in the closet and end up box-searching.

  4. I do know what Ravelry is! I'm an "observing member" cause I don't knit, but my daughter does so I need to see what she has on there or what she wants me to see posted there. Fun place for knitters and all.

  5. Love the hat, I got an invite from Ravelry also, haven't had time to do much with it. Let us all know if you get started on it.
