Warm Hands

301380812

I started the new year doing charity knitting. I'm a firm believer that what you do on New Year's day is what you will do the ensuing year. I did a bit of quilting and hand stitching that day but the majority of my creative crafting endeavor was knitting mittens.

Here's the back story. Right after CarGuy and I were married some 30 odd years ago I thought it would be a cool thing to knit my man a sweater. I spent money that we could ill afford on a beautiful gray DK weight wool. And I knitted him a pullover v-necked sweater in stockinette stitch.

WHAT WAS I THINKING?!! CarGuy is a tee-shirt and flannel shirt guy. Not a pullover sweater. In all these years I think he has worn that thing twice. But he kept it ('cause he loves me and after all I made that with my own little hands).

I asked him if I could re-purpose the yarn and he gave the sweater back. I unraveled it and, using 2 strands of yarn, I knit up 7 pairs of mittens for those that need it. 2 small pair (one pair first to test the pattern and the other pair last because I was running out of yarn) 1 medium pair as I was adjusting the pattern, and then 4 large pair so I could get some for men.

I delivered the sack of mittens to the LYS, which incidentally has a continual knitting for the less fortunate drive, yesterday just in time for the next delivery to the House of Neighborly Service.
