The Iris Garden Quilt

Just to show that I am actually working on a quilt, here is a picture to prove it. Do you remember the Iris Garden Quilt? You can read about it here and here. I am doing machine applique on this quilt. Can you see the stitches in the stem below the pinned piece? The technique I am using make the applique stitches almost invisible. The white lines on the green leaf are both embroidery embellishment lines and placement lines for another piece. The blue lines are placement lines for applique pieces and also include the number of the corresponding applique piece. The blue dots are quilting lines.

I just love those short little applique pins. They hold the piece down so well and they are just so darn cute.

  3. Looks like a lot of prep work, but what a wonderful finished product, can't see the stitching at all. The pins are cute. I bought a box to use to pin little quilts up. Haven't opened the box yet though, so I don't know if they are the same.

  4. Those itty-bitty short pins are like mine but mine don't have the fancy heads on them. These pins almost drove me crazy - they're just too small for my big hands. Maybe with the larger heads I could grip them. I buy "Iris" pins and use them for everything. They're very thin, sharp and pointy.

  5. Paula I'd love to know what kind of blue pen you use. The last couple of pens I bought have been way too big - the points don't make fine lines like I like. blessings, marlene

  6. Fabulous - I cannot see any stitches on that piece of stem. Wow! Invisible thread or green? Will you share your secret?

  8. I have those pins too and think they are great. I could not see the stitches on the applique - you are doing a great job. I had to go back and look at the prior post to see the quilt - this is going to be wonderful.

  12. Not almost invisible. Invisible. Pass me a stronger pair of glasses! Did you tute your technique? I've forgotten already, if you did.

  13. When I used to applique using methods other than back basting, those applique pins were my favourites!

  14. OOOO applique you just made me shudder. I yearn to do it, yet am terrified. I think I should leave it to the "professional quilters"
