Quilting on a treadle machine

I am experimenting with my treadle sewing machine. This is just the awesome quilting from that machine. Look at how straight and perfect those stitches are! There are the requisite three layers that were spray basted. Remember the questions from the last post? This is the small quilt I was wondering about. Wonder no more, for I have quilted it and you can see that I have started the over-embroidery.

Next up for experimentation is free motion quilting on the treadle. My treadle has the darning foot and accompanying plate so I figured, "Why not?"

I'll keep you posted.

  1. Wondering what brand and what model treadle you have. I do all my quilting on Class 15 treadles--I use 2 Necchi BU's and a 1936 Singer 15-88. It is so much fun to be able to use my feet and my hands, although I have to admit that most of the time I don't even think about my feet!

  2. Wondering what you mean by "plate" also.

Sewing on my old treadle is something I hope to get around to doing. It hasn't been sewed on in years (how many?) and needs cleaned up (bobbin area, etc). It is the shuttle type, not a round bobbin, which is something new & different to me. But I really do plan to one day just do it! I remember my mom sewing my clothes on a treadle when I was little. Memories!

  8. Thanks for sharing. I have my Grandmother's Singer Treadle and they do make great stitches. Never thought about free motion. Looking forward to your post on that.

  9. I think you can do anything on a treadle. I remember way back when I did satin stitching around all the numbers on my son's football team's sweatshirts. I used the plate and a clamp-on zig-zagger and worked all day and night. The boys looked great playing their first game.

  10. Hey Paula - question ... is your photo on your blog a good resemblance - so I can find you at Quilt Fest? 8-))) I had a short video of me a couple of posts ago -- dorky but honest. I took my photo down from my blog and replaced it with a NEAT photo of a quilt! 8-))

Hope to run into you at the Fest! 8-))
