The Dehydrator

Have you ever used a dehydrator? I have one that I've used for 30 years. It's just a counter top model made by Mr. Coffee and doesn't have an adjustable thermostat, but over the years I've made fruit leathers, jerky and recently I've been using it to dry excess fruit.

The last of the washed green grapes were starting to turn in the fridge so I hauled out the dehydrator. After cutting the grapes in half and waiting patiently for 8 hours, I had this bowl of golden raisens.

Oh what a lovely additon this will make to the morning oatmeal.

  1. Very cool! I had heard of these but never knew anyone who had used one.

  2. I have a relatively new dehydrator (over a year now I think) and I love it! In fact I'll be getting it out later today to dehydrate frozen hash brown potatoes I got on sale. I love using them to thicken my potato soup. I also dehydrate frozen chopped onions for use in soups, etc. I've done lots of fresh apples as well as canned pineapple, again bought on sale. blessings, marlene

  4. I have wanted a dehydrator for the longest time. Never even imagined using for making my own raisins . . . . I'm going to have to get going on that purchase for sure!

  5. That is a great reminder of what to do with fruit and things ripening faster than you can use them. I have two dehydrators and when I bought the first one I was trying everything. It's been years since I've used either one. Time to dust them off and start drying things. Thanks for sharing.
