This is actually a pretty standard pattern, called Primavera Socks and calls for Trekking XXL yarn. I just happened to have some, HA! I've linked to the Ravelry pattern's free download.
The heel, on the other hand, is one that I have knit before as it is very close to the standard heel flap I usually knit. This heel is called either the French or Round heel in the pattern. The rib pattern is unique, don't you think?
