Do you

backup your blog/posts? I haven't backed mine up in quite a while, actually since Sept 20, 2006. I spent the better part of 2 hours doing this. How do I do it, you ask? I open up a word processing document in one window and I open up my blog in another window. I click on the post I want to back up so that I get both the post and any comments. I carefully highlight the post; carefully because it is easy to grab the sidebar information every time and that takes up too much space. Once it is highlighted, I copy with a Ctrl-c. I then switch to my word processing document, place the cursor inside the document and paste with a Ctrl-v. I just add the newest post to the top of the document. Each month has it's own file.

Now, if I were more organized about this, I would backup as I do the posts. *ahem* But I forget. I am trying to start the new year right by doing all my backups.

As I was doing this, I realized that there were several posts with missing photos. Wha' happened? Donno. I guess I'll have to upload them again. I do know that they were photos that were stored on Blogger's servers. I think I'll just start uploading them to my picturetrail site. I have a lot of photos stored there. And there is another thing: I need to update that site by removing some albums. I need to check to see how much server space I have and what I've used. Details.

I hope you backup. You never know when you are going to need it.

  1. Gee -- Thanks for the good idea. I've never done it, even tho I well know how fast things disappear into cyberspace. That might be the best New Years resolution yet!

  2. I have been backing up since I started blogging -- using the same method you use. I made a new file for each month of blogs. Maybe I'll go even a step further and put them on a cd closing out the year. Yep, our hard drive crashed last spring and we lost a lot of thing. Had to learn the hard way ... but I learned *s*

  3. Blogger has directions for downloading your blog, but you don't get the pictures. I did it recently, but haven't formatted the document yet. Perhaps I should start doing it this year. Thanks for the suggestion.

  4. I did last month, but I'm really behind now. I need to do that tomorrow. I have trouble with the pictures when I put a bunch of them in a single post. As I start moving them so the print goes next to the picture they start getting minds of their own and jumping everywhere. I guess I need to limit my posts to 2-3 pictures at the most.

  5. I backed up before I switched to Beta. I still haven't put them on CD though. Maybe that will be a New Year's resoultion. Save to CD at least once a month. Have a great 2007.

  6. It never occurred to me to back up my blog - great idea!

BTW, I love your new Featherweight - I believe that CarGuy is definitely a "keeper". LOL

I periodically print mine, but I hadn't thought of backing them up on CD. I might give that a try. Thanks for the post--these clever ideas are helpful to us all.

  8. It is a really good idea to backup your posts. I know there are a couple of sites that let you do that and teach you how. I did use one free service, but it doesn't save the photos and comments. And now that I have switched to beta bloger, I have a lot of anonymous comments. It has a limited number of posts you can do the first time, I have to try to see if it will add the other posts or if it is a total limit.

  9. Paula,
I tried to update my blog on blogcollectorlite, but apparently the new blogger isn't supported yet.
