It's a Quilt Show!

Yesterday I went to the Berthoud, CO Outdoor Quilt Show. Berthoud is a small, quaint little town that has held this show for the past several years. The majority of the quilts entered are in the traditional category. My next several posts will be about this show. This year there was a trunk show of antique quilts owned by Jeananne Wright of Longmont, CO. You have seen some of her quilts in this post: Civil War Era Quilts.

I will be breaking the posts about this show up into different types of quilts: antique, contemporary, string, stitchery, hexagons. Also, since this was held outdoors, some of the photos have show through or splotches of shadows.

I'm going to start the show with two quilts for Amy, The Calico Cat. The first quilt was about 45 inches square and used natural colors for the wonky cats. Check out the whiskers: they were made from lengths of baby rickrack in either white or black.

The second cat quilt consisted of 6" squares of different cat fabric.

The last quilt for this post is an older (antique?) quilt made in the 1970s from polyester double knit. The colors are still just as vibrant. But then, I wouldn't think this quilt will ever wear out. Get snagged by a cat's claw maybe, but never wear out. *grin* The maker was smart and did not use a batting, otherwise one would not be able to turn over when this quilt was on top you.

  1. Those are all lovely - but that double knit one really gets me. It's beautiful! It really makes me think, for some reason...

  3. f.y.i. the wonky cat is from a Buggy Barn book, called "That Crazy Thing You Do" -- I made one last year for a Humane Society art sale -- very fun pattern!
