Mexican Star

I've had this quilt kitted up for a long time. I took it with me on retreat in April and sewed the components together there. Yesterday I started sewing the blocks together.

This is a block I found in one of Georgia Bonesteel's books. Unfortunately, I can't remember which book, but I do remember she called this block the Mexican Star. What is layed out on the work surface is the same block in different colors. The center is a Stack 'N Whack variation.

I promise that I won't let this sit around, but I'll finish it soon.

  1. Neat blocks... Did Georgia have the stack-n-whack centers? her show has been on my PBS as of late, so I have been travelling with her lately. I kind of like her Black forest block... Others leave me scratching my head...

  3. Those are such pretty colors. I'm sure you will have your stack and whack done before I will!
When I tried to look at a closeup of that picture, I kept getting all sorts of new windows opening with that windows not found screen. Might be my computer, but thought you should know in case it happens to anyone else.

  12. The Mexican Star block is in the book "More Lap Quilting" I have that book. It is slightly different than what you are doing but I think the setting is so great for a stack and whack block.

  14. That is a neat way to join the stack and whack blocks. I already started putting mine together with simple sashing. Maybe I'll have to grab another hunk of fabric from my stash and try your technique. LOL
