Hola!

Cómo estás? Yo estoy muy bien. (translation: How are you? I am very good) In fact I am great! I have just gotten back from 8 days in Las Palmas de Cortez in Los Barriles, Baja California Sur, Mexico. CarGuy and I went with 3 other couples and stayed at an all inclusive resort that caters to the sport fisher(wo)man. CarGuy caught a marlin and released it. In fact, all the guys had a good time fishing: they caught and released 2 marlins, 2 sharks and 4 dorados. And while the guys fished, the gals soaked up the sun. At least the other 3 did -- I have a red-head's skin and could only get into the sun from 8:30 or so until 10 covered in a high number sunblock. For me, I am tan.

We did have a bit of excitement during our stay. This resort has the best water, it is filtered to here and gone and is very safe to drink. The water pump to the filtering system broke. We had no water for 2 days. Do you know how to flush a toilet with no running water? I do because when CarGuy and I first moved to the mountains we had no running water and used to take a bucket filled with river water and dump it into the toilet. Force of gravity, you know. So, we were taking our trash cans to the swimming pool, filling them up and dumping them in the toilet. Worked great. But I was really glad to have the water back in time to take a shower for the flight home.

While I was in Mexico, I knitted a pair of socks using a cotton yarn and finished them on the plane. I knew when I was over Colorado because the turbulence was making me stab myself with the needles. Meh.

There's no place like home.

  1. Other than the no-water-thing, sounds pretty good. We were recently without water too (plumbing difficulties here) for too long and I feel your pain. Just having sun to soak up sounds good to me. It's good to be hearing from you again.

  2. Sounds lovely (well, except for the water outage), and you finished a pair of socks, too! Lovely photo to remember the trip by, too.

I love to travel, but totally agree there's no place like home...aka my own bed :)

  7. And here I was about to feel jealous after seeing that gorgeous picture. It sounds and looks too pretty to be roughing it.

We've had several water main breaks in our neighborhood - it is working its way down the street so we have water outages from time to time. We always fill the tank with water reserved especially for such an occasion, and then flush.

  8. I'm like you - if I so much as THINK about the sun - I start turning red! But I do love to sit in the shade in nice warm weather!!! Glad you got the water thing worked out - also helps to put a brick or something in the toilet tank so it takes even less water to flush (if you are lugging buckets!). Bet you knew that too! How fun to go on vacation with a group of friends!

    Cheers!

  9. Sounds like a great vacation (other than the water). I'm a red head too so I can relate to staying out of the sun.

  11. Hey Paula, sounds like a great vacation *VBS* I'm sure given the beauty of the place, the water situation was a small nusiance.
And a whole pair of socks?? You are one speedy knitter! Glad you are home safe and sound.
Thanks for stopping by and reminding me of your great Autumn Leaves quilt. I had forgotten about that one. Isn't that the one where some repairIerrrr. cover up was needed?) I rememeber you having to problem solve on one of them due to an ink mark(?) or a miss-snip, or something.
Anyway, it is gorgeous, and now I'm curious just when I DID piece that old one of mine. Way too many senior moments lately...LOL Hugs, Finn

  12. We lived in Puerto Rico when there was water rationing, know all about creative problem solving when it comes to water. We could be on "Survivor"! Welcome back, sounds like you had a great time despite the "glitch"!
