Homespun BOM: Old Maid's Puzzle

Here's the latest installment of the Homespun BOM. The quilter who picked this block called it Fox and Geese, but after doing a bit of research I came up with the more well known name of Old Maid's Puzzle. It is also know as Double X, Hour Glass, Crosses and Losses and Goose & Gosslings.

Do you have a different name for this block?

  1. Double X (but you mentioned that one) this is the one that I will do in taupes. I make the small dark triangles medium with the large ones being dark - the tertiary pattern is large dark shooting stars, with the secondary pattern being medium valued shooting stars.

  2. "Too much work for me"...but you probably already knew that one. In fact, I know a lot of blocks by that particular name ;)

  3. I can see why it would be called Hour Glass, but I have to stretch my imagination for some of those names -- and my imagination doesn't stretch far enough for a couple of them! I really enjoy all the names for blocks, and love to see the names people give their quilts.

  8. By whatever name you call it -- they are sweet. Love the Four Season's Quilts (and no, I haven't forgotten -- but, well, I've just gotten to the point where I can thread a needle smaller than one for weaving in yarn ends again without the air turning blue) as well -- fun, fun projects!
