The mini blogging break resulted in these piles of blocks. How many you ask? 400. That is four piles of 100 each. They will be sewn together like you see. But they need to go onto the design wall and get shuffled around. This is part of the barter quilt that keeps getting mentioned.
These blocks form the center of the quilt at 80"x80". The plan is to sew one quarter of the center section of the quilt top together at a time and then quilt it in the quilt as you go method. Once the center 80x80" section is quilted and sewn together then a series of borders (some pieced, some plain) will be added to bring it up to a larger size. The plan is for something approximately king sized.
The design wall got a new cover of batting so these blocks will stick nicely. Good thing, because I don't relish the idea of using 400 pins to stick the blocks up onto the wall. Ugh.
In case you are wondering about the quilting procedure there is an excellent tutorial at Rayela's Fiber Focus: How To Machine-Quilt A Large Bed Quilt On A Home Sewing Machine by Donna Hussain.
Wow, it's going to be big!
ReplyDeleteOMG!!!! What a lot of blocks you have.....I can't wait to see more and thanks for the tutoral link!
ReplyDeleteYou have made good progress on your blocks! Can't wait to see how you're going to quilt this baby!
ReplyDeleteLove the blocks, but that is a lot! I am defiantely going to have to check out the tutorial about quilting a bedsized quilt. Good Luck with this one!
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are beautiful! I can't wait to see this quilt!
ReplyDeleteWow! Those are interesting blocks. I'll be waiting to see the finished quilt.
ReplyDeleteI'm eager to see this one too, love the colors. That's a whole LOTTA blocks! :)
ReplyDeleteYou have done so much work already - and oodles yet to do. It will be beautiful - am glad you have the endurance for it.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness Paula, but you have taken a huge project!! Personally I wouldn't care to be working and handling something that size. I hope the reward is equal to the amount of labor involved, so often that isn't the case since non-quilters don't have a good grasp of how labor intense the process is. I'm sure it will be one awesome quilt when finished!! Hugs, Finn
ReplyDeleteFabulous project, most interesting blocks...can't wait to see how this creative approach works. I'm adding this idea to my 'quilt as you go' list of how to's. I have lots saved but have never seen this particular approach...it's great and should actually be perfect for such a large quilt!
ReplyDeleteYou are moving right along on that barter quilt.
ReplyDeletePaual, this is really cool and I dig the fabrics. What a great thing you did by taking a break and being focused.
