Some how, I have acquired several skeins of acrylic yarn. How does that happen? The stuff must sneak into the house in the middle of the night. To use it up, I knit hats for charity. I use my own pattern, a recipe actually. The basic pattern is a tutorial up under the FREEBIE tab at the top of this page. Lately, I have started flipping through my old Mon Tricot stitch dictionary for appropriate hat stitches to use. The one on this hat is called Striped Stockinette: 1 row knit, 1 row purl, 2 row knit. Repeat.
Do you like my bookmark? It's a spring loaded clothes pin.

I have my mother's clothes pins and wish I had her clothes line, too. I need to find some other ways to use them.
ReplyDeleteThe next time someone gives me acrylic yarn, I'll know whose elves to send it to. What a lovely idea, knitting for those in need.
ReplyDeleteI understand about the expanding stash of acrylic yarn. Sweet people give it to me too. I think I'm going to offer mine to some free-cycle people or some kids at school.
ReplyDeleteYour pattern for this hat sounds like even I could do it. Love that you are knitting for charity. I do lots of quilts for charity, but my knitting will be for me, when I learn how to make socks and hats.
ReplyDeleteKnitting for others in need is always a worthwhile endeavor. I'll have to take a look at your tutorial...first, gotta get back to my socks lol
