It should come as no surprise that I started a new sweater. Although, with two different colors of blue Ella Rae Classic Superwash in the stash, I needed to get a bit creative. These two colors, when seen together, remind me of a fjord. Even though Finland doesn't really have fjords (Norway does), I am making this sweater for my sister who has an affinity with Finland. She is happy happy happy!
The pattern is Elizabeth Zimmerman's Hand-to-Hand Sweater. This is knit all in garter stitch except for the cabled braid from hand-to-hand. I have 5 skeins of the dark blue and since the cable will take more yarn, that color will be the sleeve/yoke. The 4 skeins of turquoise will be the body. I hope there will be some yarn left over of either color to add a pocket or two, but who know? I am cutting it really, really close on the yardage. I need 1890 yards and I have 1971 yards. Gulp!
I have sis's measurements and I've cast on the sleeve! That braid? Once it is established, it is an eight row repeat: I have a bit of memorizing to do since it involves not only cables but increases.
