Third crocheted Project Linus blanket

Life has been extremely busy lately. Have you found it so? But, I am still working on baby blankets for Project Linus. About a month ago, I found lots and lots of acrylic yarn at the thrift store. And so far I have three Project Linus blankets made: two crocheted blankets and one knitted receiving blanket.

Blankets and afghans made with thrifted yarn are a bit like a scrap quilt: use what you have. I do not go out and try to find more of the same yarn, because it is likely out of production. And so, I match up the manufacturers or the softness, etc of the yarn. Sometimes I am lucky enough to find four or five skeins of the same yarn and color. Other times, not so lucky. I try to make the blankets as big as I can, but they mostly end up receiving blanket size or for a toddler.

Do you knit or crochet for charity?

Linking up to Judy L On The Needles Friday.

  1. I knit almost exclusively for charity. I find it very satisfying.

Love the blankets and the image of little hands clutching them protectively.

  3. I like the washability of acrylic yarns. As Judy said, knit on! They do appreciate your knitting. Thanks for knitting for Project Linus.

  4. I've never knitted for Project Linus, just made quilts, but what a fabulous idea! Next time I'm in a thrift store, I'll keep it in mind! I love having a simple knitting or crochet project in the works for when I'm in a car. It's so much easier to do than sew on bumpy roads!

  5. I have knitted for charity, but not in a while. I have a blanket I started a while ago and need to finish it. The blankets are very much appreciated, I know! Thank you for sharing your talent.

  6. We make prayer shawls and hat for the local food and to share each year in our church group. I am actually knitting tow gifts items this year which is a bit scary. Hoping they will be well received.

  8. Crocheting and/or knitting is something I have been wanting to learn. I have been quilting for a few years now and have mostly made quilts as gifts. Your blankets are beautiful.
