I am infatuated with letters. Always have been always will be. How can you ignore the smooth voluptuous curve of a handwritten lower case Chancery Cursive letter 'e'? Or the jubilant excitement of an L (ell) that just jumps for joy? Or the heaviness of a block letter? As a former typographer you can tell that I have a love affair with fonts and letters and alphabets.
So what does this have to do with quilting? Aha! I have 2 current projects that are incorporating letters: one is the challenge quilt and the other is a crocheted baby afghan. Does this pique your interest?
My daughter and I have books on creative lettering. She's a whiz at it. The success rule is practice. I keep telling myself-- Pick an alphabet and practice everyday-- 5 minutes. Soon, it will "click" and become habit...You inspire me...
ReplyDeleteyes, yes, yes!
ReplyDeleteYou've got my attention, show us more.
ReplyDeleteYou've got my attention -- since I'm the type of geek who actually reads the typesetting information at the back of books these days. Show, show!
ReplyDeleteOf course it does! I like letters too. I remember when I was a kid, they still had quite a few illustrated children's books with cool lettering--I loved looking at them; they were just as pretty as the other illustrations. I'll check back to see if you reveal your secrets!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of words on quilts...do show :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteaha, the clues are adding up. There are letters on your challenge quilt. I like letters too. I have a CD (okay several) with fonts on them, and on my old computer, and all those fonts made the computer very slow to boot up.
ReplyDeleteYes. I'll be patient, though *s*
ReplyDeletevery interesting. I cant wait to see what you're doing.
ReplyDeleteYes! I'm piqued!
ReplyDeleteIf you are ever in the neighborhood, there is a local museum of wood type you would probably LOVE!
Yes...I'm waiting....tapping my foot...ok....anytime now....
ReplyDeleteConsider my interest officially piqued! I love letters, too. I'm a calligrapher.
ReplyDeleteAnd how terribly sad (IMHO) that they are stopping teaching cursive writing to children these days. The demise of lettering - let alone letters.

I've never thought of placing intricate letters in a quilt. Great idea.
