I was asked to repair a 'blanket' that her grandmother had made. She loves this quilt and says that when she gets cold she just wraps up in it on the sofa. The colors tell me that it was made in the 1970s. She just turned 21 so she probably wasn't even born when this quilt was made. It's poly/cotton with a polyester batting and is backed with a sheet. But it is loved. Now that she is pregnant with her own child, I wonder if she is wanting the feeling of family as she wraps up in this quilt?
Is there anything better than a quilt that is loved? I think maybe not...
ReplyDeleteI have a quilt like that myself. It's one my grandmother made in the 60's and it sure shows! I have put an edging on it, it was too thick to bind, I think there is a blanket inside it! Of course it is tied, and a lot of the blocks are coming apart. There is nothing better than a best loved quilt!
ReplyDeleteA very heart-warming post! Quilts speak! I do believe it. :)
ReplyDeleteNow - isn't that what quilting is really all about :))
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely story. It reminds me to ask my mom for the afghan my grandmother made me -- acrylic yarn, holes and all -- but boy does it hold memories.
ReplyDeleteThat's a cute "blanket". I really like the pattern, and the ties. So nice to have something so well loved. I hope the repair is easy.
ReplyDeleteI love the Fetching pattern, I've knitted a few pairs of socks and really having fun. I must try this pattern. Good luck with the reorg of your blog.
ReplyDeleteLovely story - I'm sure you got the answer. She loves the quilt.
ReplyDeleteMy love for quilts began with a well worn and fairly ragged one we had when I was growing up - I call it the 'sick' quilt. That's when it always made an appearance *s* It's not always the 'pretty' ones that bring about those feelings of home and family but they sure do bring back nice, comforting memories.
