So I Told Myself

stop whining already and make one for yourself. What, you might ask, is she talking about? Why, a new weighted pincushion, of course! Isn't it cute? I have a lot of pincushions but they either have magnets in them or they are too lightweight. So I made my own pincushion and weighted it with crushed walnut shells. My pins slide right in, the weight keeps it handy and stable and I do not have to worry about magnets near my sewing machine. Isn't it a cutie?

  2. Very pink and cute. I never thought about the crushed walnut shells adding weight to it. Are they available at craft stores?

  3. Very cute! I have been admiring all the clever pin cushions that other folks have made, but I am still using ones my mom made from scraps and stuffed with hair in the 70's. And, she used UGLY scraps! lol! I should take your advice and just make one for myself, too!

  6. It looks great, and I think I read somewhere that the oil from the walnuts is good for the pins too.

  8. Paula, I have one of these in every corner of the sewing room, I used aquarium pebbles in mine, they work well, considering the gold fish long ago were flushed and those pebbles have been in a drawere for ages... also if you need one with you, I took a measured piece of elastic to fit around my wrist and wear one like a bracelet, but then after a few pin pricks into my arm I cut a small circle from template plastic and hot glued it to the bottom so now the wrist pin cushion is with me and the pins don't go through into my skin...

  11. Yes, it sure is a cutie!! I love the color, pink is a favorite of mine. I also like the fact that it is weighted, so it does not fly off the table so easiliy.

  12. I've been saying I'm going to make a pincushion too along with all the other things on my list. I'd read somewhere else that the crushed walnut shells were the filling to use.

    Nice repair on the quilt.
